Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the team access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
